First of all Cathy, I wasn't sure where to put this as there is no groups for names, only places. So sorry if its in the wrong place.

I know there is a story where John Fraser/McTavish got into some trouble and changed his name, I have what I believe as to be him and his sister Mary Fraser (1716-1770) in my tree, and their parents John and Elizabeth Fraser, now from the information I got the son John his decendents are called McTavish I would like to sort this out, it is very confusing, should John be McTavish or Fraser, and his children? assuming I have it correct and his parents where Fraser and he changed to McTavish or are his parents McTavish and he changed to Fraser???????

Thanks for any help, if that wasn't to confusing for you to understand.

Hello,

My name is Samantha, please call me Sam.

I am 21 and started doing research in my family when I was 19. I have found thousands of people, and come to what seems like just as many brick walls, which feels fantastic to break through them, I have made a post in the Australia section with just a tiny snippet of my family, I do have other information, though with the continuing McTavish, MacGillivray and Fraser names it gets very confusing.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.
