I've been looking at this http://local.live.com/ website which is a bit like Google Earth but I've found that in the areas I look at the resolution is better. And unlike GE there's nothing to install.

It shows good detail all the way down Loch Mhor until just south of Migovie when the high resolution map disappears. It shows Loch Killin well though and in most of the Stratherrick area you can even see sheep on the hillsides.

great stuff ...ill log on and have a peek a.s.ap...thank you for that...
maybe someone can shed some light on this.?
i have (for some years now) been trying to identify the exact ruins of mactavish farmhouses in garthbeg/migovie farms....
i have viewed and walked the land and stood within the buildings ( some dating back to 1300) still standing ...
the mactavish have held and occupied the farms of garthbeg, sth migovie, migovie and nth migovie since arrival in stratherrick sometime after 1300.
lets start at the garthbeg farmhouse
...
now if we walk north from garthbeg and stroll a couple of feilds we arrive at the ruins of the "sth migovie mactavish home"
we walk again north from this for a few paddocks/fields we arrive at the door of the migovie farmhous ruins.
when we stroll a hundred yards or so north again we find another ruin (nth migovie .?)
then another short stroll brings us to easter and wester aberchalder farms and these also occupied by mactavish but not continuosly as was the farms mentioned previously.

there are other ruins that seem to predate those still standing ...and in most cases these buildings are in good condition considering centuries of non occpancy and neglect...they have doorways and windows and walls but naturally the thatched roof etc has long gone...
the garthbeg home is still lived in today
can anyone help to positivley identify these ruins so they can be mapped and displayed.?
ALL farms of garthbeg and migovie are what youd actually refer to in any farming community as "one farm"
they are all attached and all farm the same basin of land . with the garthbeg home being the home of the stratherrick "head family"...
by other countries comparisons these garthbeg/mactavish farms would be today titled "lifestyle blocks"
and each farm attaches to the other and most have no fences nor seperation ( some stone fences evident as youd expect).
for my own satisafaction i wish to be able to identify each ruin and the family that lived within those walls for centuries...
incidentally ive managed to locate obituries from mactavish familyfrom all these famrs and their notices ALL sate they descend from family that have lived and farmed thise farms for centuires and many title themselves as "natives of stratherick" etc so i have litle doubt all these farms were handed down father to son for generations if not from the very arrival

i have found docs that say a john mactavish from garthbeg (circa 1650) purchased the lands of migovie for his eldest son and assume this land purchase would have been made via "feu charter" from lord lovatt?
i have also found docs that say the garthbeg farm occupant held the lease over sth migovie farm and thus the garthbeg mactavish was known as "tacksman" and the 2 farms lay beside each other anyway
the nth migovie farm occupant was also a "tacksman" but exactly what farms were held as part of that tack is unclear>?
a tacksman was simply a leasholder of trust and given the important role of being given permission by fraser chief to administer and collect rents from associated farms...i
e the tacksman was able to "sublease" other farms .

so i am searching a little more info as to which exact farms were attached to the nth migovie and able to be sub let..
now there may actually be some confusion regarding nth migovie and migovie as ive noted family from nth migovie have legally written docs that describe the farm as both migovie and later in some docs and obituries the same family say they are from nth migovie
so it may be the same farm and just titled as both migovie and nth migovie at different times in history or may be as simple as a new farmhouse constructed around 1800 (as evident on the site) and the family called the new building nth migovie ...??
any suggestions would be welcomed.?
