OF COURSE IF WERE WERE A LAMB- OF LAMONT-AND IN SCOTLAND THE CHANCES ARE YOU'D BE IN ARGYLL AND YOUR KNOWLEDGE WOULD SUGGEST X SQUADDIE; PERHAPS A S H (THE ARGYLLS). WHICH OFFERS ANOTHER QUESTION

REALMACTAVISH, I was doing some research on the Ladies from Hell, and how the Black Watch got that name. Found some interesting stuff. Apparently they wore kilts until 1940, and they were quite fearsome to the bratwurst eating Germans.
Did you know they defeated our own George Washington during the American Revolutionary War at the Battle of Long Island?

I DIDNT KNOW THAT THEY BEAT WASHINGTON AT LONG ISLAND PACKER.BUT IM NOT SURPRISED. I WAS IN THE BLACK JOCKS FOR 26 YEARS AND THEYRE PRETTY FIERCE.
IN THE FIRST W W THE GERMANS WERE INTHE TRENCHES ONE MISTY NIGHT AND HEARD THE MOST GHOSTLY SOUND (PIPES).' GHOSTS' THEY THOUGHT. THEY PEERED OVER THE TOP AND SAW THE WATCH MARCHING TOWARDS THEM IN KILTS' LADYS' THEY SAID.
THEY OPENED FIRE BUT THE WATCH NEVER RETREAT, SHOT TO PIECES THEY JUST KEPT COMING' THEY REALLY ARE GHOSTS' THE GERMANS SAID' THEY CANT BE KILLED!'
THEY ARE'THE LADIES FROM HELL'!

Well, good thing Washington drove the British from the colonies eventually. However, in researching my family genealogy, my family were all Loyalists (not a Revolutionary among them) and fought on the British side during the war. We were driven to Canada after being defeated, and weren't brave enough to come back for over 100 years.

I disagree Packer71, about being brave enough to come back.. We'd had enough of the colonists and were not stupid enough to come back until they figured things out.. After the civil war.
I find it amazing that after the slaugther of Culloden, the Highlanders became as loyal to the crown as they were. Our McTavish ancestors, including the great Simon, left the colonies and went North to Canada during the war, or like Simon's brother Alexander, fought for the British in the Revolutionary War. they went from hating the crown, to defending it to the death...................'''
HOW DID THAT HAPPEN!
