Hello my name is Andy Morrison, and have just joined.
I have studied Highland history for about thirty years.
Have an interest in the MacTavishes of Stratherrick, and recieved lot of info re them years ago, via The Gathering of the Clans forum, also have lot of my own.
Have an interest in MacDonalds of the area especially a family which were
of Achadivach, a place I believe where now is Dell lodge in Strathnairn.

I have recently discovered my McTavish and Fraser roots from this area. I live in the United States and am anxious to discover what I can about my Scottish roots. I have been doing a lot of online searching and visited both the clanmactavish.com and mactavish.org sites. I am not understanding the nature of the current conflict. Can anyone help me out!

I have feelings about the issues involving the Dunardry Heritage Association and Clan MacTavish, however, I prefer to keep this website for getting to know each other, history and genealogy. Well, the Dunardry Heritage Association has been operating for a number of years in the US and is a charitable organization. They are the people at the games in Stone Mountain, GA, supporting their clan. That was under the old chief but I haven't read anything on the new one's pages but nasty, personal attacks. I have read most of the stuff on clanmactavish and dunardry and I haven't found anything to support most of their claims. Just talk. I don't think they have even set up an organization yet since they are looking for volunteers to run for positions.

One thing I like about the Dunardry Heritage website is that they mention the problems and acknowledge the split but are trying to just do their thing and their website isn't hateful or attacking anyone. I know who I will believe and support.

Holie Molie! :o What a site that is. Some really interesting quotes and info. Seeing some of the background of the people supporting the new chief makes me want to stay away.

welcome ,and you mentioned you did not understand the recent discussions re mactavish and disputes .
heres a quick outline of the situation for you...
firstly look upon any message board re scots history and families youll find almost without exception a post of volatile nature form either edward dugald mact or pat adams or patrick thompson...to the point it is shamefull and disgusting.
then research a little into statements made by edward dugald mactavish at public meetings and games etc.??/ not good...( get the info from people who were there NOT from the mactavish "spin doctor " quote of the event.)
then look at the facts uncovered that edward dugald was explained in detail that he was NOT of chiefly line ..as a doc existed that proved this had been passed to garthbeg mactavish (simon mact)
then understand that this VERY doc seems to have disappeared from that VERY office.???
understand that signed witness statements are held that confirm edward dugald mactavish admitted to "stealing mactavish papers from archives scotland"
understand that an astute mactavish had already obtained an "authenticated copy" of the VERY document that described simon mactavish as "armiger of dunardry" and this same document passes that title to his son and heir willaim mactavish now to be titled 'of dunardry"
understand that in fact new research shows that garthbeg mactavish lineage trails direct back to the VERY first mactavish buried and titled 'thamhais mhor" around 1100....
when simon mactavish became chief of dunardry 1797 until his death 1804...the title was passed to his son william ....simons will states the land and titles of dunardry were NEVER to leave his family...
