My direct ancestor, my 3rd great-grandfather, Archibald McTavish (died1831) was the last tacksman of Garthbeg. I know from his will, that he was a cousin to Simon McTavish of Montreal, but I can find no record of his parantage. He would have been born abt 1755. He was married to Anne MacGillivray, brother of William, Duncan and Simon MacGillivray of the Northwest Company. Does anyone have ank knowledge of this man, or idea's where I should look next?

archibald mactavish of garthbeg was present as witness at the baptism of 2 of the children of my ancestor alexander mactavish of nth migovie who died 1808. Does this indicate a close family connection perhaps ? There is also an ancient track connecting the 2 farms of garthbeg and migovie ( shown on a victorian map and obviously predated this period.....this dirt track is still visible today ). The garthbeg males did not show an historical routine obligation to witness baptisms of any or all mactavish....so does this attendance by your archibald indicate they were possibly brothers?
Or do we simply have a strange and unexplained coincidence here. ?
Anyone have thoughts or suggestions on this ?
