Yes there is a Mactavish cup for "shinty"....the following from Inverness courier..
"Mr Duncan Mactavish, in January 1898 presented a silver rose bowl for shinty at a meeting of Inverness club. In November 1904 the Mactavish association drew up new rules to place it on a basis that would ensure the succesful resuscitation of the competition. Duncan Mactavish died at the Northern Infirmary Inverness on march 10 1919.
A well known citizen of Inverness he was the youngest son of Lachlan Mactavish whose forebears occupied the farm of Migovie in Stratherrick for many generations, and a brother of Alexander Mactavish ironmonger."
Are they talking of the sth migovie farm.? There are farms mentioned at sth migovie, migovie and nth migovie at different times in history....it appears this Duncan Mactavish was son of Lachlan Mactavish who was son of Donald Mactavish who was son of Dugald Mactavish and Janet Fraser....and Dugald Mactavish is listed at sth migovie 1745....and sth mgovie is the closest building to gartbeg. ?? but Dugald himself only spent a short time at sth migovie......or does this statement that "Lachlan Mactavish forebears occupied the farm of migovie for many generations " show the garthbeg head family set up the famrs surrounding the garthbeg in typical ancient customs...the head home was surrounded in perpituity by homes of the closest bloodline families to the head...to enusre 100 % protection of the head family and next bloodline ...
