Hello everyone,

Have only recently found this site and this is my first posting. I'm quite a novice to the McTavish clan as I've only recently found my g.g.g.g.g.grandmother. I don't know enough about the history to pinpoint who I belong to but this is what I know.

My g.g.g.g.grandmother was Margaret McTavish who married John Cameron on 21/10/1775 in Ruthven.

Their children were Angus b. 24/9/1778; Alexander b. 22/9/1780; John b. 8/9/1781; Janet b. 22/9/1783, Tavish b. 11/1/1789 all in Ruthven, Dunchay, Dores. Also Duncan b 20/1/1798 and Angus b. 4/5/1803 in Inverness.

I have not been able to trace Margaret’s parentage. I am also unsure if this is all the same family, given the 9 year gap between Tavish and Duncan and the difference in places – although by today’s standards they are not too far apart.

I went up to Inverness last month but could find no trace of the family in the cemetries around Inverness.

I come from Duncan who married Ann McDonald and lived in Laggan, Inverness.

Regards

Chris

Welcome Chris!

Did you check the cemetary at Dunlichity? Or at Boleskine??? I will take a look at my databases and get back with you quickly!

Hello Cathy,

Yes, I think I did. I went to so many in such a short time (only had 2 days) that I can't be sure. I wasted a bit of time going to the wrong Ruthven - there are two of them quite close to each other. I also spent quite a bit of the time in Laggan and was lucky enough to fnd the place where my g.g.g.g.grandfather and grandmother lived in 1841.

Inverness is an absolutely georgous place - I'm hoping to get back up there again next year.

I'd really appreciate it if you found anything on them.

Thanks for your help.

Regards

Chris
