AS WE'VE ESTABLISHED THAT TAVISH MEANS TWIN..AND INDEED TAVISH THE PROGENITOR WAS A TWIN-OF IVOR- IS THERE A LIKELIHOOD OF TWINS IN OUR GENETIC MAKEUP? I KNOW MY FATHER WAS A TWIN BUT HIS BROTHER, PADRAIG, WAS STILLBORN. THE STORY GOESTHAT THEY WRAPPED HISWEE BODY IN NEWSPAPER AND LAY HIM ON THE KITCHEN DRAINING BOARD UNTIL A MINISTER COULD ARRIVE TO BAPTISE/BLESS HIM.
ANY TWIN OR TWIN ANCESTRY OUT THERE??/

let's see, my first cousin had a set of twins, her mother - a McTavish, had a set of twins. My great-grandfather Simon McTavish (1867-1943) was one of two sets of twins, so yes, twins run in my family, and I am grateful that I did not have a set.......whew, one at time is plenty!!!

Poor wee Padraig------(or Porrig --as they say in Ireland!) So many wee'uns must've suffered that fate-
but I have to agree with Cathy ,one at a time is hard enough!
There are definitely some twins further back in my McT line inc. grt grt grt grandfather Duncan and possibly his father also.
I ve FINALLY made a tentative link from the family at Culloden,Petty back to Dores----one of Angus's sisters Jane /Jean McTavish married a William Shaw OF DORES in 1823 and raised a small family at Bochrubin,Dores.
Theres a couple of McTavii living nearby them in 1841 , no guarantees they're related but Im hoping for Jane's sake there were enough family or friends around to help with HER bairns!
I have a hunch my oldest known ancestor Duncan is the guy born 1750 Inverness to Alexander and Elizabeth McTavish who also lived in Dores------but Im still searching!
Here's one of the wee surprises I dug up while pouring over a page in the 1764 Dores OPR ---

"James Fraser, son born in fornication to Simon Fraser of Abersky with his maidservant Jannet McTavish."

I cant find out much more about the unfortunate Jannet ,but hey-- who knows-- maybe she got the inheritance and emigrated !

Was'nt it awful cruel how wee babies were labelled from birth in those days? It was tough enough to stay alive without having your mother stigmatised by the church and humiliated in public!

Just wanted to add a good site for exploring old Highland ruins from your armchair-
www.geograph.org.uk
Theres some great pics of remote spots and a draggable map-which is great fun-----Ive just been to Coignascalan!

Yep, they pretty much did not mince words in those days........I have seen a few like that.

Nessie, if Duncan was indeed born to Alexander and Elizabeth then we have made the firm connection between our families. And Alexander would have been a first cousin to Old Simon of Montreal!

First cousins with Simon would be truly amazing ---but even better to be 42nd cousins with Catherine the Great !!!! You're a rock of a gem Cathy!-----not forgetting all the other dear cuzzies of course !

Unfortunately I still cant be certain ---as many of our poorer/or REBEL ? Highland ancestors seem unaccounted for in the older OPRs and then theres that old book which fell in a fast flowing stream isn't there?
At the moment Im trying to link in 1790's baptismal witnesses like Charles Fraser and J.Sinclair and
also hoping someone may even help me rule out a connection with Tavish McTavish of Moy who married Isabella Dunbar---does anyone know who his parents were? The naming pattern of his kids suggests he was the son of an Angus McT and an Isabella or an Elspet????????

On the twins front I can report that more double trouble apparently occurred for a Jean McTavish in 1801 @ Inverness---
she had twin boys Angus and William on the 2 September to a John McDonald!
Its that DNA thing goin on again !

What a beautiful name!!!!

Isn't it odd, so few MacTavish and so many sets of twins. It must be genetic!!!
