There is a manuscript written in the 1890's by Dr Mathews entitled:
ARGYLSHIRE

A Contribution to Argylshire History being A Monograph Sketch of The Sweynes of Skipness and the MacTavishes of Dun-Ardrigh, Knapdale and elsewhere, their ancestors, and descendants

By One of them

G.D. Mathews, D.D, L.L D.

The last 3 Chapters of the book are on the Stratherick and Garthbeg branchs. Must history of the area included. for some reason the Official Clan MacTavish website has chosen to ignore the Garthbeg portions of the manuscript. The manuscript posted on their website is extremely edited, with much left out of the piece. In fact the entire manuscript is about 145 pages, and they only have 15 of them posted on their website. You may find the links to the pdf files at the bottom of this page.

If anyone would like the pdf files of the remainder of the book, simply e-mail me and I will get them to you!

Thank you so much for sharing this Cathy-----just a pity the "KLAN" didn't see fit to do the same!!!
It really opens up the whole picture of how close the McTavish family network always was and how shrewd they must've been to avoid the political minefields around them throughout the changing faces of the clan system.

Isn't it a shame when people won't share knowledge for the fear that it was distort their own version of events!!!

The other chapters of the book are about the Dunardry branch, let me know if you would like them and I will e-mail them to you!

A very belated HappyChristmas to all Garthbeg members , friends, visitors and especially our incredible hostess with the mostest;Cathy!
Just want to wish everyone all the very best of health and happiness too--for the New Year when it arrives.

I printed off all the Matthews Garthbeg pages and presented them to my gob-smacked brother on Boxing Day ---he was fascinated and read them immediately ,but soon disovered that we'd lost page 105
----any chance you could mail me that one page sometime in the new year Cathy?
Much obliged
luv'n big monster hugs
