lets set the story sraight about the mactavish/campbell association...
1...patrick thomson states that the mactavish ties to campbell have been reversed and this action sets right an error made by lyons in 1793 when awrding arms to simon and lachlan mactavish

1A ...lyons actually made that grant on facts and docs supplied by lachlan and simon..there was NO error made by lyons...
1793....lachlan writes and says he has docs that prove mactavish descent from argylle in his possesion dating back to 1500 s.
1793...simon writes and states he knows the mactavish descend from campbell
1828 ...sherrif dugald writes and says his family wore the campbell tartan ..he also says his grandfather was asked by argyll to change his name to campbell but refused and he was the last of that family that retained their seperate name..
##### so lyons had no influence on simon and lachlans arms as both men state fact prior to their applications that BOTH branches of our clan knew of the campbell connection....now simon and lachlan accepted such a campbell association only 40 years after culloden so had they any doubts whatsover they would have voiced this question in order to seperate themsleves from the recent bloodshed of their family members by the campbell betrayal at culloden...but they didnt ..
any error made regarding lachlan and simon original grant of arms was made BY those men ...but we must ask why 2 seperate branches of mactavish that had not been in contact for centuries and each living at either end of scotland could have both retained such an error in their clans history dating back to 1200.??
this question needs to be addressed....for patrick thomson to simply state that it was a "mistake" and that the new mactavish grant "corrects an ancient wrong " is absolute contempt for our clans history and legends and the memory of the men who were granted those arms in 1793...DONT lay the blame at lyons feet...docs prove the error was made by lachlan and simon ...GET THE HISTORY CORRECT PATRICK ....and give up this pretence of writing our clans history...you are re writing it with errors...
