Hi everyone! My name's Rebecca and I live in north Northumberland, about 5 miles from the Scottish border, but a large branch of my family tree were highlanders, all (so far) from the Inverness-Fort Augustus area. My g-g-grandmother, Isabella McDonell (or McDonald - both versions are used in the records and I don't know which one is correct),was born in the parish of Boleskine and Abertarff. Her father and grandfather were stone masons in Bunoich, which is very close to Fort Augustus. Her mother was Margaret Fraser, who was born, according to the 1851 census, in around 1815. The parish records show Margaret's marriage to William McDonald in Oct 1841 and say that she came from Stratherrick. She died some time before 1861. I have photographs which I believe must portray her and her husband, but I have no other information about her. I would love to trace her family, as I am trying to research the entirely female line of my family tree and at the moment, it stops with Margaret Fraser of Stratherrick.

Welcome to our community Rebecca!

Those elusive Fraser?s! There were so many of them! I have several in my family tree, as the Garthbeg McTavish were very closely aligned with Fraser for hundreds of years! I will make you a page on my website, and see if we can break through this brick wall of yours!

Please feel free to post throughout this forum!
